Xiomara Laugart first came to fame here in the U.S. as the lead singer of the new-wave Grammy-nominated Latin funk band Yerba Buena and her star-turn in the Broadway premiere production of Celia: The Life & Music of Celia Cruz.

Since these milestones Xiomara's solo performances are marked by her soulful singing and accomplished virtuosity. She has the skill to perform either a cappella or with a full band; nostalgia and the contemporary sounds of today mix seamlessly when it comes to Xiomara's music.

Over the years Xiomara has performed at venues all over the world and with some of the biggest talents in the music industry. at venues around the globe for years and along the biggest talents all over.

In her native Cuba she is a living-legend having recorded more than 15 albums. For many years, Xiomara Laugart “La Negra” as she is popularly known, was Muse to the Nueva Trova artists. Xiomara is both the essence of the old Cuba, with its rhythmic folk songs, fused with a blend of today’s directness and clarity of voice, which is eventually matched with her deep laugh. It is that distinctive laugh that has captivated audiences from all walks of life with her swing style in all of her Cuban splendor.

Xiomara is gifted with an impressive vocal range with allows her a lot of freedom and an ability to straddle numerous genres simultaneously. She has recorded and/or performed along names such as: Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Albita, Isaac Delgado, Carlinhos Brown, MeShell Ndegeocello, Femi Kuti, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu & many more.

Unity was conceived in the summer of 2006 by Cuban pianist Axel Tosca Laugart & Cuban American drummer Amaury Acosta. Axel is the son of one Cuba’s greatest singers & performers Xiomara Laugart. Axel and Amaury met at Xiomara's CD release party at New York’s Joes pub and quickly became friends and musical partners. They envisioned many musical projects and ideas. After several months of playing with several musicians they still didn’t find what they needed. In fall 2008 they met French guitarist Michael Valenau, and Minneapolis native bassist Christopher Smith, and they began playing and composing as a unit. Since then they have performed at the West New York Music & Arts Festival, Nu Blu, Zinc Bar, Cachaca, Rose, and many more. In January 2009 they recorded their first e.p. Entitled "(U)nity Is Power"!! featuring Hartford Conn. Native Luques Curtis, Cuban percussionists Pedrito Martinez, & Roman Diaz, Puerto Rican bass giant John Benitez, The amazing Xiomara Laugart Cuban vocalist, and up and coming saxophonists Phoenix, Arizona’s Lucas Pino & Hudson Valley New York’s Mike McGaril, Michael Valenau and others. After living in New York they wanted to make a sound that resembled what was happening currently in the world, and one of the things that lacks the most is (U)nity!
